Jordan Elected to IAEA Board of Governors for 2025–2027 

On Friday, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was elected as a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for a two-year (2025–2027), during the 69th IAEA General Conference held in Vienna.

The Jordanian delegation participated in the proceedings of the 69th IAEA General Conference, held in Vienna from 15 to 19 September 2025. The delegation was headed by H.E. Dr. Khaled Toukan, Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, and included H.E. Ambassador Mr. Mohammad Hindawi, and Dr. Ahmad Al-Sabbagh, the National Liaison Officer with the IAEA, in addition to representatives from the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission and the Embassy of Jordan in Austria.

During the conference, H.E. Dr. Khaled Toukan delivered Jordan’s national statement, expressing deep appreciation for the IAEA’s distinguished efforts in promoting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. His Excellency reaffirmed Jordan’s steadfast commitment to the development of its peaceful nuclear program, aimed at enhancing national capabilities and consolidating the Kingdom’s standing in the global nuclear energy landscape.

A series of meetings were held on the margins of the conference to review the latest developments in Jordan’s nuclear program and to further strengthen frameworks for mutual cooperation. The Jordanian delegation also met with IAEA Director General Mr. Rafael Grossi to discuss avenues for advancing the partnership and enhancing ongoing coordination between Jordan and the Agency.

Jordan’s election to the IAEA Board of Governors is a testament to its esteemed international standing and reflects the international community’s confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to make a substantive contribution to the advancement and application of nuclear technology.
