Neutron Calibration Laboratory
The Neutron Calibration Laboratory provides services for calibrating neutron dosimetry devices and irradiating and calibrating personal exposure measuring devices. It is considered one of the key laboratories of JAEC and the nuclear program and the facilities affiliated to it, such as the Jordan Research and Training Reactor (JRTR) and the Jordan subcritical assembly (JSA).
The Neutron Calibration Laboratory was established in 2022, and is the first laboratory of its kind in the country and one of only a few in the region. The laboratory provides a service for calibrating neutron dosimetry devices and an irradiation and calibration service for personal exposure measuring devices.
The Neutron Calibration Laboratory performs the following tasks:
Irradiation and calibration for personal exposure equipment including Thermoluminescent Dosimeters (TLD) and Personal Electronic Dosimeters (EPD).
Specialized training and scientific research for students and researchers from Jordanian universities.
Calibration for neutron dosimeters.
The laboratory provides its services to several national institutions, such as the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) and factories that use neutron sources, in addition to specialized nuclear facilities such as JRTR and JSA. Furthermore, the laboratory supports activities at JAEC, including the nuclear emergency response and the transport and storage of radioactive materials.
It is worth noting that the laboratory was designed and operated by JAEC’s staff and implemented by local suppliers. The laboratory has obtained ISO accreditation (IEC/ISO 17025:2017). The laboratory is equipped with modern equipment and is staffed by highly qualified personnel.
