Gamma Irradiation Facility
Jordan Atomic Energy Commission has established and operates gamma irradiation facility designed to provide advanced sterilization technology using gamma rays. This method utilizes gamma rays emitted from Cobalt-60 isotopes, which have high permeability, allowing for the effective sterilization of products even when they are in their final packaging.
The gamma irradiation facility offers the following services:
Extension of Storage Life and Delay of Ripening: Applicable to flowers and specific fruits such as mangoes, pineapples, and strawberries. Inhibition of Sprouting: Focused on onions, potatoes, and ginger.
Sterilization of Medical Disposables: Includes syringes, bloodlines for dialysis units, laboratory materials, and both filled and empty medical containers.
Reduction of Microbial Load in Cosmetic Products: Covers both finished cosmetic products and raw materials.
Inhibition of Sprouting: Focused on onions, potatoes, and ginger.
Sterilization of Raw Materials, Pharmaceutical and empty gelatin capsules.
Microbial Load Reduction in Herbs, Spices, and Nuts.
The facility is accredited with ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems and ISO 13485:2016 Quality Management for Medical Devices.
